I never realized that clearing the impacted ear wax would be so painful by an ENT doctor. well, it is what i have been through today at Hospital UKM, Cheras.
The impacted ear wax had been 'housed' inside my both ears since early May this year. Though most of the time it did not affect my hearing, but think of long term period, this impacted ear wax will cause my ear canal to be blocked and might lead to conduction hearing loss.
After Leeting had helped me to conduct the PTA( Puretone Audiometer) and Tympanometry (Well, all these are audiometric instruments to check the patient's ear condition) last friday ago in the audiology clinic, the results showed normal. But the otoscopic reviewed that my ear wax had harden inside the ear. =.=''' it's serious...
After the clinic supervisor Pn. hooi had rechecked my ear condition, she advised me to go HUKM to find an ENT doctor to take out my ear wax. Today, through the helps from Pn. Hooi, i took the referral letter written by her and immediately rushed to HUKM by taxi. Thanks to her, i am not required to 'book' an appointment in which i need wait for several weeks to see the doctor. Instead, by the arrangement done by her with the doctor, i was given opportunities to be seen by the doctor immediately.. Thanks pn. Hooi. =)
And this is most scariest part i have been through in the ENT room. I was stunned by different types of 'pointed head digging tool' displayed on the table in many row. Inside the drawer, there are more of them.. O.O''.. speechless
As the result of my harden ear wax, doc cant take out the wax by sucking. Instead, it requires a digging instrument to take it out. And then, the process begin which doctor began to take out my wax in the right ear. This wax from the right was so much easy to take out within minutes which i was not experienced any pain. Guess what, the wax from the right ear as big as a peanut and it's colour is dark..
For the left ear, it was the most difficult and hardest ear wax to be taken out.. Doc used about 30 mins to dig it and pull out the wax, u know, every movement of the ear wax in my left ear when doc was trying to take out, it caused me a great pain and it was so torturing and unbearable. I was holding the nurse's hand and crying miserably. The wax was so hard that required water to flush into my ear to soften it. Finally, it was taken out after 30 mins, and i was relieved.. however, it has some residue left inside the left ear. I was informed to come again to be followed up with the doc after three weeks.
I remember i walked out the doc's room with tearing eyes and running nose and headed to pharmacy counter to take my ear drops. oh it was so painful.. and i was alone that moment as i came to the hospital alone. It was a great and yet painful experience i had ever gone through..
And guys, a reminder to you that do not ever use your hand to dig the 'stuff' (whatever u call it) out from the ear, as the more u use your hand to dig it out, the more inside the wax would be pushing in(And this is what i did last time and now caused me to bear so much pain to suffer from.) and cause the wax unable to drop out from the ear and hence, it become blocking your ear canal. Ear wax inside our ear is producing every moment day by day, and it will automatically drop out from our ear. So, do not use your hand to dig it out okay. If not, u would be in the ENT room and let the doc does the job for u.. lol..
